What a night, a screaming inconsolable child who woke in the
middle of the night and could not be comforted.
What do you do when it goes on for ages… you hear the car doors slam and
off for a drive to get him to sleep.
Luckily this wasn’t us, our two actually slept through it all, but Jason
and my hearts went out to the parents and child in the camp next to us. Especially as the Dad was running the
marathon today. We are guessing they
might not be going camping again anytime soon.
It really bought back memories of our first camping trip with Hamish and
he did the same, though settled after 5 minutes (thankfully). It is a big adjustment and sometimes you just
have to go with the flow and do whatever works.
Hamish has little jobs he helps out with.
Here he has to turn it on and off when Jason says so.
Another day on the road, but this one was by far our
shortest so far. That is probably a good
thing as we have done over 2,500km so far.
It was a lovely drive through the countryside to the Barossa wine
region. There was a good reason for this
slight detour and that was to use a voucher I gave to Jason last year. So we called into the Chateau Tanunda and had
a game of crochet followed by a wine and cheese platter. We then had to resist the temptation to stay
and headed off to Murray Bridge.
The grounds of Chateau Tanunda.
Jason showing Hamish how to do it.
Hamish doing it his way.
We weren’t sure what to expect of Murray Bridge as when we
spoke to people about going there, no one really have anything positive to
say. The countryside leading into town
was not what I expected. Nothing bad, I
just had a different picture in my head that was really nowhere near the
mark. We haven’t gone exploring much
around town yet, but we have liked what we have seen and the locals seem
friendly. We also drove across the first
bridge to ever go across the Murray River!
The ever changing landscape. Still waiting for some lush green grass.
Nope, no sign of green grass.
First bridge across the Murray river
Guessing they were planning for a big flood.
We set up camp while Hamish met some new kids to play with
(one who was also called Hamish). Then
we were off to get some worms so Jason and Hamish could go fishing. It was really beautiful down on the river,
just very peaceful and relaxing.
Unfortunately there was no fresh fish for dinner, only a carp was
caught.
Jason relaxing after another hard day of holidays.
Sibling cuddles.
Kayla's not to sure about this fishing thing.
We have had our first casualty on the trip too – one of the
fold up chairs has had a bit brake off.
It is still going but I think it is on its last legs, but fingers
crossed it can do the next 4 weeks. At
least we have the nice big relaxing ones back home (if Vince hasn’t made a
claim on them whilst we are gone). Our
van now also has a wine cellar in it which also doubles as the spot to keep the
spare linen. It just seemed like the
safest spot to store the wine we bought whilst travelling. We seem to be buying more than what we can
drink, so I think we need to stop there until we work our way few a more. I mean we are limited in the weight we can
tow!
Sun setting on another day.
