I have really found Renmark to be a beautiful town and
really make the most of its prime position on the Murray River. It has everything I like in a town, beauty,
wineries, gourmet food and the locals seem very friendly.
First stop was to the information centre to find out what
there is to do in the town. It had some
great little displays and it was interesting reading about the 1956 flood. Here I was thinking yep a flood that comes
and goes in like two weeks. Nope, the
low areas where inundated in late May and the flood didn’t peak until mid-August. Then it would all have to recede. The damage it must have done to the crops and
local farms being under water for that long.

Mum you would love this town for its roses. It has a 10 day rose festival in October but
were still in fine form for our visit.
We had morning tea in the local rose garden which also had a vintage car
display. Some smart couple formed a
business that keeps both the husband and wives happy (and the food and resident
dogs for the kids). They also had these
great life size pelican and sheep (other animals too) sculptures made from
scrap metal that were awesome. I would
have bought them but that would have blown our spending budget for the entire
week.

We went for a drive to check out the beautiful houses across
the river as there was this beautiful colonial home way up on the hill with the
best outlook on the river. Then with two
kids asleep we just lazed around the campsite.
Jason went and tried his luck with fishing but unfortunately I can’t
report any edible catches. Once the kids
were awake I took Hamish down to join Jason fishing and Kayla and I headed into
town to do the river walk. It was a
lovely way to spend the afternoon and truly take in the beauty of this
town. I love how you can just pull up
your houseboat right at the local club and go in for a drink or meal.
Apparently the biggest of the 11 black stumps.
We were lucky to see the bridge rise to allow houseboats through.
It only does it twice daily and if someone calls up.
After my little bit of exercise to supress the guilt from
eating all the good food has kicked in we returned to camp. Jason had the fish that I had bought
pre-empting the unsuccessful attempt on the webber. Believe it or not this was probably one of
our dinner meals outside for a while. In
other places it has been getting very cool in the evenings so we eat inside,
however we seem to be entering warm territory again which is nice. It has been a lovely 31 degrees the last few
days and clear blue sky. Hopefully this
great weather continues with us for the rest of the trip.
Kayla and I enjoying our walk.
Beautiful water feature on the river bank.
Looking back along the river bank.
